The Battle of Wesnoth. A great open source turn-based game.
I’ve only played this game a few dozen times, but its been great. The website for the game is available here.
The game play is your typical turn-based where you move your troops and attack, and then the other player moves theirs and attacks. When your troops are attacked they defend themselves.
The lineup of troops is complex at best. There are tons of units and each one is different (it gets different qualities when it is made, randomly) Then your units can get experience and become new units and sometimes you get a choice on what it becomes. As you move levels you can recall experienced units and recruit new ones.
If you like this kind of strategy, try it out, I didn’t know anything about games like this (and still don’t) but I wanted to try it, and I’ve enjoyed it. Hopefully I’ll expand this section when I learn more and get better at it.
